Change Attachment for a Record

A record is a collection of data in a grid. An example is an asset that has been entered on a Depreciation Summary grid or a State grid, if a grid is available for the state in the Depreciation Detail worksheet. You can select to change multiple or all records in a Summary or State grid.

To change a record attachment to a different entity, do the following:

  1. Open the worksheet containing the records to reassign, such as an asset on the Individual Income/Deductions > Business > Depreciation and Amortization Summary grid.
  2. Select one or more assets in the Summary grid.
  3. Click in the Edit group on the Home tab and select This Record.
  4. Select the entity type and available entity for that type to which the entities should be assigned and click Change.
  5. Calculate the return. The records are now attached to the selected entity.
  6. Note: Throughout a return, asset numbers are unique and are used once. Assets that are assigned to a new entity retain their asset number from the previous entity after being moved to a new grid row.

Change Attachment for a Section

A section must be a repeating section in order to change the attachment. The Change Attachment option is not available for non-repeating sections. An example of a repeating section is Business Use in Home (Form 8829).

To change a section attachment to a different entity, do the following:

  1. Open the worksheet containing the section to reassign, such as the Individual Income/Deductions > Business > Business Use in Home (Form 8829).
  2. Open the applicable section that contains data and select a field.
  3. Click in the Edit group on the Home tab and select This Section.
  4. Select the entity type and available entity for that type to which the entities should be assigned and click Change.
  5. Calculate the return. The section is now attached to the selected entity.

Change Attachment for a Worksheet

Each row in a Summary grid represents a record that you can expand to a separate Detail worksheet that provides detailed information for the expanded item. An example is the Depreciation Detail worksheet for the Depreciation Summary grid. Detail worksheets can also contain State grids, where applicable.

To change a worksheet attachment to a different entity, do the following:

  1. Open the worksheet containing the records to reassign, such as an asset on the Individual Income/Deductions > Business > Depreciation and Amortization Summary grid.
  2. Click Detail on the grid button bar.
  3. Select a field in the detail worksheet.
  4. Click in the Edit group on the Home tab and select This Worksheet.
  5. Select the entity type and available entity for that type to which the entities should be assigned and click Change.
  6. Calculate the return. The worksheet is now attached to the selected entity.
